Olivia Barry is a designer, artist and sculptor based in New York. She followed in her grandmother’s footsteps and took up the medium of ceramics at an early age. In addition to mastering hand-thrown pottery, Raku and various traditional glazing techniques, Olivia studied Industrial Design at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan. There she specialized in the mass-manufacturing methods of slip casting and molding before apprenticing for a decade under Eva Zeisel, one of the foremost designers of the 20th century. Olivia and her work with Eva are featured in the book Eva Zeisel Life, Design, and Beauty published by Chronicle Books.

 

With work spanning the hand-made to the machine-made, Olivia’s sculptures are in the permanent corporate art collection of Bombay Sapphire as well as private residences and her ceramic lighting has been commissioned by Robert A.M. Stern architects. In addition, Olivia has several dinnerware collections manufactured by Royal Stafford in England and currently carried by the retailers Crate and Barrel and Bloomingdales.

 

Her flatware designs for Eva Zeisel are currently on display at the Cooper Hewitt Museum in New York City.
